How to use this calculator
Choose bill units or daily load as your energy input. Add simultaneous running watts, local sun-hour and loss assumptions, panel wattage, and the essential load and hours you want to back up.
Understanding your results
The results estimate array size, panel count, continuous inverter power and nominal battery storage. Electricity units describe energy, not peak load; enter peak running demand separately. The backup load is assumed to be included in your daily demand.
Common questions
Which solar calculator for home should I start with?
Start here if you have billing units and know your simultaneous running load. If you only have an appliance list, use the kWh calculator first. A home solar calculator needs both daily energy and running power because those figures size different parts of the system.
Is this a Tesla solar calculator?
No. Solarwise is an independent planning tool with editable assumptions. For a Tesla solar quote, Tesla's official design tool asks for a home address and electricity use to suggest a system. Solarwise does not retrieve Tesla prices, roof designs or product-specific recommendations.
Can I use this as a solar calculator for Australia?
Yes, for preliminary sizing using your own Australian electricity consumption, suitable local peak sun hours and equipment specifications. When comparing solar energy in Australia, use consistent AUD amounts in the cost tools and your own retailer rates in the savings tools. Solarwise does not automatically apply Australian rebates, export limits, network approvals or electricity plans.

Backup consumption is assumed to be part of the daily demand, not additional demand. Include storage losses in the solar loss assumption. Choose equipment with compatible PV capacity, string voltage/current, surge rating and battery discharge limits. Billing data alone cannot reveal peak load.
Does this select a specific product?
No. It provides minimum planning capacities. A final design needs equipment datasheets, seasonal generation and a site assessment.
