What is this tool used for?

Use this calculator to understand how arranging identical solar panels in series and parallel changes the array's voltage, current and rated power.

How to use this calculator

Enter panels per series string, the number of parallel strings, and each panel's Vmp, Voc, Imp and Isc from its datasheet. Keep modules and string lengths consistent with the model's assumptions.

Understanding your results

Series panels add voltage; parallel strings add current. The calculated Voc is at the entered reference condition, so it still needs a cold-temperature check. Use inverter string compatibility next to screen the array against a particular MPPT input.

How this is calculated

Series connection adds voltage; parallel strings add current. Array Vmp = series × module Vmp. Array Imp = parallel × module Imp. Rated power = array Vmp × array Imp. Array Voc and Isc use module Voc and Isc similarly.

Before you use the result

Assumes identical modules with equal-length strings under matching conditions. Voc here is at the entered reference condition, not corrected for cold weather. Use the string compatibility tool before choosing inverter inputs. This does not size fuses or connectors.
