What is this tool used for?

Use this tool to understand how direct solar use, imported electricity and exported surplus affect a simplified monthly bill. It can compare energy netting with separate import and export pricing.

How to use this calculator

Select a billing model and enter monthly generation, consumption, directly self-used solar, import rate, export rate and fixed charges. Direct self-use cannot exceed either generation or consumption.

Understanding your results

The result separates imports, exports, estimated bill and savings. A negative bill represents a modelled credit, not a promise of cash payment. Check your utility's actual taxes, time bands, settlement and rollover rules separately.

Can I compare AGL Solar, Origin Solar or EnergyAustralia offers here?

You can enter the import rate, export credit, fixed charges and energy assumptions from an offer you have obtained. Recalculate with each offer while keeping consumption and generation consistent. Solarwise is independent of these providers and does not retrieve their plans. This simplified model does not capture time-of-use bands, demand charges, eligibility conditions or every contract fee.

Berechnungsmethode

Imports = consumption − direct self-use. Exports = generation − direct self-use. Net billing values imports and exports separately. Energy netting offsets imports against exports in the same period; any surplus uses the entered export rate. The baseline bill is consumption × import rate + fixed charges.

This is a simplified scenario, not a current utility tariff or eligibility determination. Taxes, time bands, rollover, export caps and non-offsettable charges are excluded. Negative bills show modelled credit, not a guaranteed cash payment.

Which billing model should I choose?

Use the model in your utility agreement. Net billing and unit-for-unit net metering can give very different savings.
