What is this tool used for?
Use this calculator to estimate the continuous and startup ratings an inverter needs for your appliances. It helps you compare inverter specifications before choosing equipment.
How to use this calculator
Enter the load that will run at the same time, the total peak load during startup, power factor, spare continuous capacity and required surge duration. Use electrical load measurements or equipment specifications.
Understanding your results
Compare both the calculated kW and kVA with the inverter's continuous ratings. Its peak rating must also last for the required number of seconds. A suitable power rating alone does not confirm battery or solar-input compatibility.

Choose an inverter that meets BOTH its continuous kW and kVA ratings, and the peak rating for the specified duration. PV input voltage/current limits, phase, battery discharge capability and charging power require separate checks.
Is a 5 kVA inverter always 5 kW?
No. Its rated output power factor and manufacturer specifications determine its usable continuous watts.
