Use this tool to estimate how long an existing battery bank can keep an average load running during a power outage. It also helps you see how reducing the load changes backup time.
How to use this calculator
Enter bank Ah and voltage, current charge, minimum charge to keep in reserve, conversion efficiency, AC load and the inverter's own battery-side power draw.
Understanding your results
Estimated hours end when the battery reaches your reserve level. This scenario assumes no incoming solar charging. Real runtime can be shorter if the battery is cold, aged or unable to supply the required power.
Common questions
Can I estimate backup time for a portable solar generator?
For a battery-based portable power station, the same energy-versus-load principle can provide a rough estimate if its rated battery energy, usable capacity and conversion losses are known. Use bank voltage and Ah that represent the same battery capacity, and check the unit's own continuous and surge limits. This tool does not model simultaneous solar recharging.
