What is this tool used for?

Use this solar energy calculator to estimate the daily electricity production of a solar array and its output over a chosen number of days.

How to use this calculator

Enter installed array kWp, peak sun hours appropriate to the selected location and season, total losses and the period length. Repeat with a different sun-hour estimate to compare months.

Understanding your results

Daily and period kWh describe energy, not the array's instantaneous output. The model uses the same daily assumption throughout the selected period, so a sunny month's result should not simply be multiplied to claim a full year's production.

Common questions

How does this solar production calculator differ from PVWatts?

The PVWatts calculator estimates the output of grid-connected photovoltaic systems using a solar-resource model and system settings. Solarwise uses the sun hours and losses you enter in a simple energy balance. It does not connect to PVWatts or retrieve weather data; use the official service when you need its more detailed production modelling.

What does a solar PV calculator estimate?

PV means photovoltaic: solar panels that generate electricity. This solar generation calculator estimates daily and period output in kWh from array size, peak sun hours and losses. Use it as a solar electricity calculator for an initial energy estimate, then compare the result with your consumption. It does not model hour-by-hour matching between production and demand.

計算方法

Daily kWh = array kWp × peak sun hours × (1 − total loss fraction). Period energy = daily kWh × entered days.

使用結果之前

Enter sun hours appropriate to your location and selected month. This simple energy model does not fetch weather data or model hourly inverter clipping, orientation or shading separately; incorporate these effects into the inputs. Do not extrapolate one summer month to a full year.
